Acupuncture: What is it?

Acupuncture originated in China over 2,500 years ago and is now practiced throughout Asia and Europe. It is currently being used more and more in America as we begin to recognize the health benefits & effectiveness of acupuncture through scientific research and studies.

Acupuncture itself involves the insertion of fine, pre-sterilized disposable needles into very precise points on the body which stimulates and activates the body's self-healing mechanisms. In other words, acupuncture encourages the body to heal naturally and to improve its functioning.

Oriental medicine views the body and mind as a unique and integrated system. Rather than looking at a series of separate symptoms, an acupuncturist takes into consideration the whole person. This means that the acupuncturist can address the root cause of pain or illness, especially in chronic cases.

Modern acupuncturists may use heat therapy, electrical stimulation, nutritional recommendations & herbal medicine in addition to acupuncture.
